A meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump was held in Beijing. Executives from several major American companies, including Tesla and Apple, also participated in the dialogue held at the Great Hall of the People. According to reports, the talks lasted for a little over two hours. It was also stated that the Russia-Ukraine war was among the topics discussed.
Could the course of the Russia-Ukraine war change following these negotiations? Might any agreement be reached regarding Iran? American analysts John Varoli and Andrew Korybko answered our questions on the matter.
Varoli believes that China and the White House know the truth and that everyone understands the real nature of what is happening. “This is the result of a plan. The war in Ukraine is the outcome of a strategy implemented in the late 1990s — NATO’s expansion toward Russia’s borders and the plan to effectively bring Ukraine under NATO’s sphere of influence, which goes against the wishes of the Ukrainian people. Many of you think Ukraine is being occupied by Russia. But real experts, as well as the Chinese government, know the truth. We know that this war is the result of NATO expansion and attempts to control Ukraine.”

Varoli stated that the only way to end the conflict is for the U.S. or NATO to stop their aggression toward Russia. In fact, according to him, this is aggression not against Russia, but against Ukraine itself, because the Ukrainian people do not want to join NATO. “China will discuss Ukraine with Trump. China knows everything and will tell Trump this argument: stop this madness. Stop the situation in Ukraine. Stop the aggression against Russia and there will be peace in Europe. It’s that simple.”
Varoli added that Iran is part of the same discussion framework. According to him, China will tell the U.S. to stop its aggression toward Iran and there will be peace in the Middle East. “That is why we have rarely seen major international problems that could be solved this easily. If Washington took the right steps, if it respected international law, human rights, and state sovereignty, everything would be fine. Now let’s look at Taiwan. According to international law and even American policy, Taiwan is part of China. Even Washington officially recognizes Taiwan as part of China. But what is it doing? Unfortunately, during both the Biden and Trump eras, we have seen more aggression. We are witnessing this aggression toward Taiwan through American weapons systems.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Korybko stated that the Third Gulf War abruptly disrupted more than 50% of the oil China imports by sea from the Gulf, despite China’s rapidly growing green energy industry and enormous strategic reserves. “Prolonged disruptions could further weaken the Chinese economy and eventually lead to a global economic slowdown. This, in turn, would worsen the economic situation for ordinary Americans ahead of the November midterm elections. At the same time, many expect Trump’s Republican Party to lose control of Congress to their Democratic rivals.”
According to Korybko, from Trump’s perspective, the issue is that the U.S. does not want to end its partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz unless Iran complies with some of his demands. “Likewise, Iran does not want to accept some of those demands either, especially conditions such as halting uranium enrichment and handing over control of its already enriched uranium. This is precisely where China’s potential role in reaching a compromise becomes important. Undoubtedly, this issue was discussed between Trump and Xi Jinping, but it is still unclear what outcome, if any, will emerge from these discussions.”
