Vatan (Patriotic) Party Chairman Perinçek: From Edirne, we raise our flag against US and NATO tanks

No visa for tanks trying to cross the Meric river into Türkiye

Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek addressed the people on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at an Outdoor Meeting organized by the Vatan Party at the Post Office Square in Edirne, city bordering Greece. Perinçek stated that Türkiye was targeted in the NATO exercises under the command of the United States, which will start in Alexandroupoli on May 26, 2025, and will continue until June 9, 2025, and summarized as follows:

My Dear Citizens

Dear Pioneers of our Borderline City Edirne,

Heroes of the Borderline

We greet you with heartfelt feelings, respect and love.

Dear Brothers and Sisters

We go up to the minaret of Selimiye, from the highest balcony we look across the border with an “eagle’s eye”.

We see tanks there. The Greek press published a photo of it yesterday. Tanks in rows! US and NATO soldiers in front of them…

Vatan Party Chairman Perinçek holding speech in Edirne

As we look from Edirne, the soldier on the left-most tank is holding a NATO flag.

The soldier on the tank to his right is holding a Greek flag.

The soldier on the tank to the right of the tank with the Greek flag is holding the US flag!

The soldier on the tank on the far right is holding an Israeli flag!

Yes, you did not hear wrong, an Israeli flag on Türkiye’s border with Greece!

Where is Israel, where is Alexandroupoli! But the photo was published, an Israeli flag on our European border!

Showing the Flag

To the NATO tanks, US tanks and flags, and Israeli flags in Alexandroupoli, we show our flags with the crescent and star from Edirne!

We invite the officials from Center Against Disinformation to the Seli̇mi̇ye Mausoleum

There are disinformation centers in Ankara. Yesterday, they issued statements claiming that the exercise in Alexandroupoli is not a NATO drill. They should take off Trump’s glasses and put on Türkiye’s. Let them look from the minarets towards Alexandroupoli and see the NATO flags.

They say there is no threat to Türkiye. Let them remove Trump’s glasses and wear Türkiye’s lenses. The barrels of the tanks are pointed directly at us. They should, though it may be a burden, look at the barrels of those tanks and see the threat!

Lullabies!  Enough with the lullabies! They will not lull Türkiye to sleep!

Türkiye, do not sleep! A NATO exercise under U.S. command

If they can’t read and write Turkish, let them read in the language they know well!

It is written in English! Let them open the U.S. European Command’s Defender 25 website and read about the Immediate Response 25 exercise.

Let us translate into Turkish: “Immediate Response 25”!

It is planned at NATO Headquarters.

It mobilizes NATO forces.

It uses NATO infrastructure.

It is conducted on NATO’s eastern flank! We, Türkiye? We are outside the NATO flank. We are the target country on NATO’s border.

Party members marching through Edirne

Türkiye is excluded from the NATO exercise at our border

Not tomorrow, but the day after—Monday, May 26, 2025—a NATO exercise begins in Alexandroupoli. It will last for 14 days until June 9, 2025.

Read carefully: Among the 18 NATO countries participating, Türkiye is not listed!

Türkiye is supposedly a NATO member, but Türkiye has been excluded from the exercise.

Why? Because the exercise directly targets Türkiye.

NATO’s weapons are aimed at Türkiye. Whether the Disinformation Center in Ankara writes a petition to Trump’s friends, sends a delegation, or sends pleas for Türkiye’s inclusion is now their business!

The river to be crossed in the exercise scenario: the Evros (Meriç) River

The scenario of the exercise involves immediate intervention against the target country.

Engineering battalions consisting of 2,000 personnel have arrived from the United States.

A river-crossing exercise is planned.

Which river is to be crossed from Alexandroupoli?

Is it the Mississippi River? The Rhine? The Seine? The Danube?

No! The river to be crossed lies 30 km from Alexandroupoli: the Evros (Meriç) River!

Do not sleep Türkiye!

Do not sleep Ankara!

In 2022, our President had said “we’re not buying it!”

In 2022, during a flight, our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, responded to a question, saying:

“The U.S. has established nine military bases along Greece’s coast. Some say, ‘these bases are not against Türkiye, they are against Russia.’We’re not buying it!”

So what has happened since 2022? Did the tanks and planes from those bases leave and were replaced by doves? Now that Biden is out and Trump is back, have the tanks and planes vanished from our line of sight?

Turkish passport to Greek armored division

The exercise scenario involves tanks crossing the border. The Greek Armored Division is in charge.

The border to be crossed is the Turkish border.

They say the Greek armored division will cross!

Mehmetçik will host them!

They cannot cross alive, but there is a passport and a visa for the dead to cross.

U.S. tanks need a visa from bulldozer driver Refik

On the right side of the highway leading to Pınarhisar lies Ataköy. There once lived Refik, the Bulldozer Driver. May he rest in peace. But even in his grave, he won’t sleep. Even if Ankara sleeps, he won’t. Let U.S., Israeli, and NATO-flagged tanks try crossing the border — Refik will rise from his grave, climb onto his bulldozer, fire it up, and drive straight into the tanks trying to cross the Evros River.

No visa from Refik for those crossing the river with tanks, artillery, and missiles!

In the village of Karaoğlan in Babaeski, there was a former village headman named Fahrettin. May he rest in peace. Even if Ankara sleeps, he doesn’t in his grave. Karaoğlan is a land of rocks and stones. He’ll rally the village youth, give them stones and rocks, and they’ll greet the uninvited ones trying to cross the Evros with a rocky welcome — at the bottom of the river.

Those who come with arms will receive no passport from Headman Fahrettin.

In İğneada, there once lived Şükrü and Fadime Mezarcı. They too have passed, but they left behind children and grandchildren. Those descendants will grab their hoes, pitchforks, and sticks, and salute anyone trying to cross the border under U.S. and Israeli flags the way Mehmetçik (our soldier) would.

Those trying to cross the Evros with tanks and artillery will not pass alive. Their bodies will be put in coffins, draped with U.S., NATO, and Israeli flags, and sent back where they came from.

What Israel has to do with Alexandroupoli

The Greek press has published photographs of the tanks near the Alexandroupoli border. Some even bear Israeli flags. No one should be surprised. The defense of Palestine begins in Alexandroupoli, at our border. The defense of the people resisting under bombardment in Gaza begins at the Alexandroupoli border.

An alliance has been established in the Eastern Mediterranean among Israel, the United States, Greece, and the Greek Cypriot Administration. Traffic is intense. There are continuous movements from Tel Aviv to Athens and from Tel Aviv to Southern Cyprus. In the Eastern Mediterranean, military exercises named Noble Dina and Nemesis are being conducted as vengeance operations. Their targets are Palestine, Türkiye, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Syria, and the other countries of the Eastern Mediterranean. Iran is also among the targets. All the countries and peoples from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Strait of Hormuz are included.

Those attempting to lull Türkiye to sleep—if they feel no shame before the Turkish nation, let them at least feel ashamed before the children and women in Palestine, before the Turkish people in Northern Cyprus, and before all the peoples of Western Asia.

Ankara, do not sleep!

We are calling out together from Edirne to Ardahan and Kars. We are calling out to Diyarbakır and Van. We are calling out to the ports of Mersin and Trabzon, to the steppes of Anatolia, to Eskişehir and Bursa. We are calling out to İzmir and Antalya:

Do not sleep, Türkiye!

We are calling out to Ankara. Ankara has Altındağ, Samanpazarı, and Hamamönü, Cebeci, Dikmen, and Keçiören. There are 5 million citizens living in Ankara. And Ankara is also home to our leaders, our statesmen. First and foremost, we call out to them: Do not sleep, Ankara.

There is no need to call out to Çankaya. Because Çankaya never sleeps!

There are those who seek to lull us to sleep

I do not know whether they still exist, but during our childhood there were “flower scopes.” They are also called kaleidoscopes. We would pay five kuruş to look into them. When you looked through this flower scope, you would lose touch with reality. You would only see colorful flowers, glittery views.

The disinformation center in Ankara also holds flower scopes in their hands. They are handing these scopes to our 86 million citizens. When you look through the kaleidoscope toward Alexandroupoli, you cannot see the tanks bearing U.S. and Israeli flags. Instead, you see Trump’s smiling face.

When you look toward the U.S. base in Kavala, you see Trump holding a flower.

When you look toward the U.S. base in Thessaloniki, you see Trump waving and saying “my dear friends.”

When you look toward the U.S. base in Larissa, you do not see NATO tanks. Trump, smiling, offers you a hallucinogenic pill. Once you take that pill, the whole world turns pink. The tanks turn into flowers. The barrels of the cannons turn into candy.

The tale of Keloğlan

In Keloğlan tales, the fairy king’s daughter falls in love with Keloğlan. In our tale, the fairy king’s daughter is Trump. She is in love with Ankara. And it seems there are some in Ankara who are in love with Trump.

Trump, our friend, will open the dollar taps. From those taps, dollars will flow and gush out. We will all put our mouths to the taps and drink those dollars. We will become rich. Tomatoes will ripen early. Sunflowers will see the sun even at night. Factory wheels will turn without electricity or energy. Our children will find jobs, no one will be left unemployed. Universities will become exam-free. And so, let us pull ourselves together and not see the U.S. and Israeli-flagged tanks in Alexandroupoli. Let us close our eyes with our palms. Let us open our palms to the doors of banks in London and New York. Let us wave white handkerchiefs at U.S. tanks—not as a sign of surrender, but as a handkerchief of friendship with Trump. In the tales, the king’s daughter falls in love with Keloğlan. In our fairy tale, the king’s daughter is Trump. He has fallen in love with Ankara. And it seems there are some in Ankara who have fallen in love with him, too.

There are those who do not sleep

The minarets of Selimiye do not sleep.

The calls to prayer do not sleep.

The crescent-and-starred red flags do not sleep.

The Vatan (Patriotic) Party does not sleep.

The Youth Union of Türkiye does not sleep.

The Republican Women’s Association does not sleep.

The Turkish Confederation of Labor does not sleep.

The Dervishes of Horasan (Hoca Ahmed Yesevi) do not sleep.

The baglamas, zurnas, clarinets, violins, pianos, and drums do not sleep.

Show those sleepless flags to Alexandroupoli.

The Mehmetçik does not sleep.

The heroic Turkish nation does not sleep.

The statue of Namık Kemal in Tekirdağ does not sleep.

Stones and bronze statues do not sleep — but Ankara sleeps soundly.

Even while in intensive care in Istanbul, Barbaros Bahçelioğlu, a member of the Central Committee of the Patriotic Party, does not sleep. Should those tanks attempt to cross the Meriç River, Barbaros Bahçelioğlu will leap out of the ICU and stand tall in defiance of the American and Israeli flags.

“The US and NATO will be buried into this map” – poster held during the march

We defy

Mimar Sinan has ascended the minaret of Selimiye and defies the flags of the United States and Israel.

We, standing here in the square in front of the Edirne Post Office, defy the barrels pointed from Alexandroupoli.

Talat Pasha of Edirne defies with us.

Enver Pasha, the Conqueror of Edirne, defies alongside us.

Mustafa Kemal Pasha, standing atop Kocatepe, wearing his kalpak, gazes upon the enemy in Alexandroupoli and defies them.

Do not dare to start the engines of your tanks — you will drown in the River Meriç. Do not attempt to launch your aircraft from the Elefsina Air Base — you will crash upon the mountains and rocks.

Let not your warships depart from NATO ports — you will be overwhelmed in the Aegean and the Mediterranean.

A message to Greece

From here in Edirne, we address Greece: Do not surrender your country to American boots. Send those U.S. bases back to Trump’s homeland.

Lift the Greek flag from beneath the heels of American soldiers. If you do not lift it yourselves, we will pick it up off the ground and return it to you. Do not compel us to go through such trouble once again.

A message to trump

Trump, Trump! Gather your tanks and leave the Greek bases.

Trump, Trump! Take your bases and go.

If you wish to be a friend, do not come at us with tanks and guns. Otherwise, there will be no passport, no visa for you

My border is like my chest full of faith

Dear citizens, dear people of Edirne,

Today we held this rally here in joy and unity. We extend our thanks to the Governorship and the Police Department of Edirne.

Like Nasreddin Hodja, like a Bektashi elder, we look upon the tanks in Alexandroupoli with a smile—because we trust our nation. We trust our state. We trust our army. We trust our police. And we trust ourselves.

I ask you: As you look toward Alexandroupoli, is there anyone here who feels fear?

If so, raise your hand.

If not, raise your flags, raise your fists.

We are not afraid!

“Fear not, the crimson flag that proudly ripples in these dawns shall never fade!”

We are not afraid, because as we declare in our National Anthem, our borders are like our chests—full of faith.

With heartfelt love and respect to you all, dear citizens.
