With Biden gone, Trump here:  Is the Turkish-Russian cooperation put aside?

The new US administration still pursues imperialist policies, and cooperation between Ankara and Moscow more needed than ever.

We always emphasize the importance of Turkish-Russian cooperation for the security, development and economy of both countries. The cooperation of these two countries is needed not only for both countries, but also for the stability, development, peace, security and tranquility of the region. Especially in the face of the Atlantic threat, the partnership of these two countries becomes much more important.

Favorable Developments

Of course, developments are in favor of Türkiye, Russia and all Eurasian countries. The center of the world economy is shifting from the Atlantic to the Pacific, the dollar is losing its dominance. In the face of the Atlantic threat, political unions, military unions, partnerships and alliances such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are gaining importance. The West is losing its military superiority. Again, you see that the Atlantic front is failing to overpower Russia and China militarily and is taking steps backwards.

These are the conditions that brought Trump to power. The Trump administration had to accept reality and act accordingly.

They Have No Other Partners to Replace Each Other

But it is important to remember that the United States is still an imperialist power. And the Trump administration is ready to exploit any weakness in Eurasia. In fact, they are trying very hard to draw one of them to their side, to isolate the other, to try to make it an easy prey.

In this respect, Turkish-Russian relations have not lost their importance. In fact, they have gained much more importance. There is absolutely no such thing: “Under Biden, we needed each other. When Trump came, Turkish-Russian cooperation was pushed to the background.” There is absolutely no such thing.

Because both Ankara and Moscow have no other partners to replace each other.

For The Healthy Progress of the Ukrainian Peace Talks…

We look at the Black Sea, yes, maybe there are peace talks between the US and Russia. But Ankara and Moscow are still dependent on each other. Even if there are peace talks again, it will not be possible for this process to proceed in a healthy way without Türkiye. You look at Europe and it persists in aggression. It is trying to disrupt the peace talks. It is even trying to use Türkiye as a tool for its own plans. Therefore, this process will not be possible without Türkiye.

It will not be able to achieve what it wants in economy and security without giving up its Atlantic policies in Ukraine.

Is Cooperation with the Shara Government in Syria Sufficient On Its Own?

You look at the Eastern Mediterranean. Trump is loading up on the Eastern Mediterranean. In Syria, maybe Ankara thinks that it has an important partner like the Shahra Government. But we all see Israel’s aggression with our own eyes. How will Türkiye, Ankara, resist Israel, the US? How will it make the PKK lay down arms? It is not possible to do this with the Shahra government alone. In the Eastern Mediterranean, Qatar, Greece, Israel and Southern Cyprus are conducting joint exercises. How will the security of the Eastern Mediterranean here be ensured? It is not possible for Türkiye to overcome these challenges without cooperation with Russia.

Russia will not be able to protect its interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and Syria without Türkiye.

Therefore, Turkish-Russian cooperation on every front is important to change the balance.

Cooperation Is Also Necessary on the Economic Front

It is the same when we look at the economy. Peace talks and the lifting of sanctions are being discussed and talked about. However, we see that this will continue for a long time. Neither the sanctions will be lifted tomorrow, nor Trump will easily give up his dollar hegemony. He will continue to impose the dollar; he will continue to use the economy as a stick. We are already seeing customs wars; he has declared a customs war. The energy crisis will not end immediately.

In this respect, Russia will need a breathing space, and Türkiye will need to overcome the crisis. Again, all these developments show us that Türkiye and Russia are dependent on each other and that they cannot be fully comfortable in the economic and security fields without each other.

Urgent Steps to Be Taken

There are various elements of cooling in Turkish-Russian relations. These must be eliminated urgently. A common strategy must be formulated and of course, Ankara has a big role to play here. Because we often see Ankara’s weaknesses and mistakes and we emphasize them. Türkiye must urgently give up on following the tail of the EU, hoping for help from Trump, begging for loans from US funds or British banks.

We are sure that the relations between Türkiye and Russia will once again determine the future.
